The University campus is strategically located in Hung Hom, Kowloon, on a 9.34-hectare site adjacent to the Cross Harbour Tunnel. In coping with the Institution's growth and development, a number of works were carried out and plans drawn up in the year to ensure that the University campus provides a congenial environment for staff and students. Phase Seven and Phase Eight developmentThe University's Phase Seven development project, located in the northeastern corner of the campus, has been recently completed. Backed by the UGC's funding support, this large-scale project will give rise to a 14-storey complex, providing a gross floor area of about 24,700 square metres. The new building provides accommodation for laboratories and other research infrastructures, lecture theatres, general teaching rooms, staff offices and communal areas. The project also serves to demonstrate the University's determination to provide a safe and stimulating environment to foster teaching and scientific research. To meet the anticipated demand for additional space with the likely extension of the undergraduate curriculum from three to four years, the University has submitted a formal request to the Government for the possible allocation of an additional piece of land to the north of the campus for our Phase Eight campus development. New community college campusMeanwhile, the Hong Kong Community College (HKCC) is taking a major step forward with its planned new campus. Located in Hung Hom Bay next to the Student Halls of Residence, the HKCC site has already commenced construction since March 2005 and it will be completed by July 2007. |
