Did you ever notice that when you’re fat, men don’t look you in the eye? They look across your shoulder. There’s no eye contact.
My name is Leslie. I am a real person. Up until two years ago, I was never looked in the eye, by anyone.
I was too tired to be a lover to my husband. I was falling asleep by 8 o’clock most evenings. When I did go out for an evening. my husband was ashamed of me. And he said so to my face. When I walked, my thighs scrape together. I couldn’t even cross my legs. I was fat. Not just“overweight”Fat. I was 5’55” tall and weighed 205 pounds.
About 18 months ago, my husband Darrell left a “Dear Leslie”letter on my bed and asked for divorce.
I went to a psychologist for advice. I knew that my weight was the source of my troubles. But I’d tried 14 different diets, at which I failed one by one.
He listened carefully and recommended an entirely different program. This was not a “diet.”It was a unique new weight-loss program researched by a team of specialists who help to treat the severely fat. I entered the program. Within the first four days, I lost only three pounds. So I was disappointed. But during the three weeks that followed, my weight began to drop from 205 pounds to 124 pounds. To me it was a miracle.
The reason the program worked was simple. I was always eating. I could eat six times every day. I could snack in the afternoon. Snack before dinner. I could even have snack at night while watching TV.
How can you eat so much and still lose weight?
The secret is in the combination of foods, approved by the research team, which you eat in each 24 hour period. You will enjoy a variety of meats, chicken, fish, vegetables, potatoes, sauces. Even some light wine or beer if you wish. But be sure to have them in the right proportion(比例)…thus a complete 24-hour fat-reduction cycle is formed.
Without hunger, without nervousness, it lets you lose pounds so easily. Once you lose the weight, you’ll keep it off. Forever, I am sure of that.

Who are the most beautiful women in the world? Looking at the records, people might think Venezuelan women are. They win the Miss Latin America. Miss Universe, and Miss World contests more frequently than women from any other country. In Venezuela, the term“Miss”as in“Miss Universe”is an honored title.
These days, people in some cultures consider beauty contests to be silly. They have tried to stop these contests, saying the contests treat women as objects and place too much importance on women’s looks. But in Latin America, beauty contests are a source of pride.
Are Venezuelan women really more beautiful than other women?“They are not really more beautiful here,”says Selena, who trains girls for the contest.“It’s just that the girls here work harder and prepare more than anyone else.”
The preparation takes many hours a day. The contestants stretch their bodies and practice their walks down the runway. They work on their speeches and practice answering questions such as“Whom do you admire most in the world?”They starve to stay slim. They take classes to learn how to style their hair and apply make-up.
It isn’t easy. One Miss Universe winner immediately put on 20 thousand pounds after the contest was over. The cost is high as well. Fortunately the television station that holds the contest pays the cost.
Yet most of the contestants say it’s worth the effort. A former Miss Universe is now mayor of a district in a large city. Although she had no political experience before that she has been asked to run for higher political office. Another winner has her own television show .      Frank Wright probably is the greatest architect that the United States has ever produced. He had a natural ability to design buildings. His buildings were not only beautiful, but they were also functional. They fit their purposes very well. Wright’s churches, for example, make people feel like thinking and praying. His office buildings make people enjoy working, and his houses make people feel comfortable, at home. However, Frank Wright’s beautiful, functional buildings are not the only reason that he is famous. There is another reason.
Frank Wright is called the greatest American architect because he started an American style in architecture. Most of the architecture in the United States before Wright was really European, not American. Wright’s buildings do not like old European buildings. They have their own style. Wright’s ideas about style are still used in the United States and in other parts of the world.
The most important idea in Frank Wright’s style of architecture is that a building must fit its purpose and the land around it. His houses are often called“grass-land houses”because their lines are similar to the lines on the grass-land. Both the lines of the grass-land and the lines of Wright’s house are parallel(平行)to the horizon(地平线), the place where earth and sky seem to meet. They are horizontal lines. Most European style houses, in contrast, have many vertical(垂直的)lines that form 90 angles with the horizon.

When Charles Strattion was five, he stopped growing. His mother took him to see the famous showman, P.T.Barnum thought a small person would be the perfect addition to his show. He hired Charles’ parents along with him, and they traveled around the world together.
